2025 Giving Letter

Have We Told You Lately That We Love You?

As we enter our third year, we want to acknowledge the tremendous accomplishments made possible by you, our Cat Cove supporters who share a commitment to saving community cats. Because of you, Cat Cove and our dedicated volunteers saved 910 cats and found loving homes for 750 of them since we began in 2022.

Volunteers

You are the essential ingredient that saved so many cats in the past three years. From socializing, feeding and cleaning, transporting to vet appointments, and much more, your volunteer efforts have helped achieve great results. Whatever your skills and availability, your sharing nature has given life to Cat Cove.

The Kitty Express and Petfinder

As a rural rescue, our local population cannot adopt the large number of homeless and sanctuary cats we support. So our volunteers partner with an extensive network of rescues and shelters in Virginia, North Carolina, and Maryland to adopt our felines into new homes. Check our posts on Facebook showing volunteers driving The Cat Cove Kitty Express to meet their new families. Local adoptions totaled 37 last year and 9 so far in 2025. Thank you to our local residents who gave our kitties a forever home.

First Responders

We have often provided the first available help on weekends and evenings, providing basic care for felines in urgent need until veterinary care is available or shelters are open. Cat Cove has accepted special needs felines when the care was beyond the scope of the shelter.

Donors

In addition to our core services, your financial donations allowed us to:

  • Obtain emergency medical treatment for critical needs fosters by reaching donation goals in just a few days.  You are amazing.
  • Accept adoptable homeless felines found on private properties.
  • Take in pets due to owner evictions, deaths or incapacity. These much-loved pets are frequently seniors and need extra supportive care.
  • Provide temporary fostering of pets when owners need a short-term respite.

Upcoming Challenges

As always, you are the key to our success and we love you for your shared commitment to our mission. We are grateful for your on-going support and timely action, and hope we can count on you this year to achieve more great results on behalf of the cats who come into our care.

This Spring rescue centers face yet another kitten overpopulation season, a backlog that threatens to temporarily halt our adoption transfers to forever homes in Northern Virginia. The larger the backlog, the more cats we care for, the higher our care costs and the more volunteers we need to take care of those added cats. Your volunteer support and financial donations are needed this spring to prepare for the coming overload.
