Cat Cove is always in need of resources to help care for cats in the Northern Neck of Virginia, whether that is your time, cat supplies, or financial support.

Volunteer

Whether you have a love of cats, get therapeutic benefit from being around cats, or have court-mandated needs to serve your community, we have a job for you at Cat Cove. Volunteering involves exercising cats, cleaning litter boxes and cages, restocking supplies, and other vital activities. Most importantly, your love and attention will help ensure a successful transition into adoption.

Volunteering is a rewarding way to offer your talents and fulfill the many jobs available as a Cat Cove team member. Your experience and community spirit regardless of your age, background, or location is needed to support the homeless cats in our care.

In addition to positions assisting directly with the day-to-day tasks of meeting our felines’ daily needs, we are currently filling positions for transporters, grant writers, outreach coordinators, and event planners. Click on the links provided to find out more information about each role.

Foster Parents Needed

If you have ever thought of fostering cats or kittens in your home, we have qualified staff who can answer any questions or concerns you may have along the way.

You provide the space and love, and we provide:

  • Food
  • Litter box and scooper
  • Litter
  • Dishes
  • Toys (if available)
  • Bottle of Rescue disinfectant for cleaning


Grant Writers Needed

Researches available grants and writes grant proposals on behalf of our non-profit organization. 

Responsibilities:

  • Research available grant opportunities supporting animal rescue services
  • Maintain a grant calendar and create a submission plan
  • Collect data and write grant requests
  • Track status of grant requests and ensure follow up communications with appropriate grant donors
  • Review submitted grant proposals and status with Board of Directors

Qualifications:

  • Detailed research skills and excellent writing skills
  • Self-starter and goal oriented
  • Computer and Internet proficiency
  • Organizational skills and detail-oriented

Transport Volunteers Needed

Transport Volunteers drive felines to non-kill rescue partners in Fredericksburg, Richmond and Northern Virginia. These transfers improve each cat’s chance of finding a forever home in a more populated area.

Responsibilities:

  • Transport felines safely to pre-arranged rescue partners
  • Ensure the safety of each cat during the trip
  • Assist with loading and unloading cats in carriers as necessary
  • Obtain all appropriate documentation before and after the transfer
  • Inform CCI Director after transfer has been completed

Requirements:

  • Valid Virginia driver’s license and Good driving record
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs.
  • Ability to drive in the dark (early morning and late afternoon)
  • Complete a Volunteer Application (see below) and meet with Volunteer Coordinator prior to first trip.

Time Commitment:

You will have notice of pending transfers, usually a few days to a couple weeks in advance, in order to coordinate your schedule. Transfers occur randomly throughout the year and typically require a half-day to full-day commitment.

  • A mileage tax deduction, in accordance with IRS regulations when using your own vehicle
  • Use of a CCI vehicle as needed ( Automatic, four-door sedan)

Outreach Coordinators Needed

The Outreach Coordinator builds name recognition and support among community and business leaders to promote CCI’s mission of saving community feline lives through adoptions, foster care, and spay/neuter awareness.  The Outreach Coordinator contacts local businesses to generate community support of the Cat Cove, Inc. mission. Building a strong community relationship is the key objective of this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Increase awareness of Cat Cove, Inc.'s mission and programs in the communities serviced by CCI
  • Generate sponsorships, and in-kind and monetary support from businesses, corporations, vendors, and social-service groups from the areas served
  • Recruit a volunteer pool to assist with sponsorship solicitation in surrounding counties
  • Maintain a database of business donors
  • Provide periodic activity and donor reports to the Board of Directors

Requirements:

  • Outgoing personality
  • Organized self-starter
  • Understanding of business and corporate environment
  • Driver’s license and good driving record
  • Ability to develop goals and strategies to achieve goals
